1:44 am Sunday Morning, there was a large fight inside the Syn Nightclub at 217 E. Pikes Peak Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs.Police say a large gang fight involving approximately 75 to 100 people broke out. When the Community Impact Team (COMMIT) Officers arrived, there were several injured Syn nightclub staff members exiting the club. The fight spilled into the street outside the club following the initial fight where Officers used harassing water-based pepper spray to disperse the majority of the crowd. Another 22 more police units arrived to assist in ongoing disturbances from other divisions from around town as well as multiple K9 units. In all, more than 30 officers were needed to regain control of the situation.
Police found a victim lying on the floor of the club with multiple cuts to his upper torso, possibly caused by a broken bottle. This victim was transported to Penrose Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.Witnesses stated that there was one large fight inside the main room of the club, and that several additional fights occurred throughout the rest of club simultaneously. According to medical staff, 6 nightclub staff members were treated for minor injuries and an additional two staff members voluntarily went to the hospital for evaluation. No charges have yet been filed pending further investigation. You may remember that the owners of Syn Nightclub had been summoned to appear before the city’s liquor board last Friday for allegedly serving alcohol to three underage male customers on Jan. 3. Last week city prosecutor Scott Patlin declined to comment on what the punishment would be for the embattled nightclub if the liquor board found the club guilty of the allegations. The nightclub has undergone many name changes over the past few years and the types of activities and violence occurring at the nightclub has remained, for the most part, relatively unchanged with more than five violent acts including stabbings and shootings in 2009 alone.
