Jymaika Hutson, a gang member who goes by the street name "Tiger-6," was charged with first-degree murder and rendering criminal assistance March 1. Prosecutors did not release details about the charges when they were filed because they didn't want Hutson to be tipped off, a spokesman said.Hutson, 31, was linked to the April 28, 2007, shooting of Tyree Lee, in the 2600 block of East Alder Street, hours after Lee's body was found on the street, according to court charging documents. Lee belonged to the Low Profile gang and Hutson is a member of the Deuce 8s, authorities said.Investigators talked to Hutson on May 3, 2007, and he denied being in the area of the shooting, charging documents said. Police said other witnesses were uncooperative. In May 2009, a witness who had previously been uncooperative told police that Hutson had been planning to kill someone on April 28, 2007, because the intended target had witnessed Hutson being shot, court papers said. The witness told police that he heard gunfire and saw Hutson and another man running away from the scene. He said Hutson later told him he killed Lee, court papers said.In October 2009, police re-interviewed another witness and the man said he was with Hutson when Lee was shot, charging papers said. The man said Hutson took his gun, but he "denied any knowledge that Hutson was going to shoot Lee" that day, according to charges.
Charging documents didn't say anything about an ongoing rivalry between Hutson and Lee. The man who said that Hutson took his gun only said that Lee had been present during "a previous incident where Hutson was shot with a shotgun," court papers said.
According to police, Hutson is black, 6 feet tall, 180 pounds with has a "deformed left eye."
