Carl Williams, notorious Melbourne thug and the subject of the first Underbelly series, has died in Barwon Prison.The convicted killer Williams had suffered head injuries and died soon after from cardiac arrest.He was serving a 35-year minimum sentence for the murder of three gangland rivals.Williams has one of the main characters in Melbourne’s gangland. He was a convicted drug trafficker.In 2008, the TV drama Underbelly told the story of Williams and his crimes. Gyton Grantley (pictured) played Williams in the show.On February 28, 2007, Williams pleaded guilty to the murders of Lewis Moran, Jason Moran and Mark Millia and guilty of conspiracy to murder Maria Condello.His mother Barbra was found dead at her home on November 22, 2008.Carl Williams was 39-years old.
