Prosecutors: Morales cold case murder committed by three brothers The Republican-American: "killing of Wilfred 'Freddy' Morales 12 years ago was a family affair carried out by three brothers who were members of the Latin Kings street gang, according to court documents. The motive for the slaying was robbery, police say, but the killing may also have involved retribution for a gang battle between factions of the Kings in the mid-1990s.
Police charged Thomas Bonilla on Saturday with felony murder in connection with Morales' killing, and on Monday they filed the same charge against Bonilla's brothers, 38-year-old Noel 'Poochie' Bermudez and 35-year-old Victor 'Moogie' Santiago.Police believe Bonilla and his brothers confronted Morales, the owner of a popular Baldwin Street nightclub and bar, in an attempt to rob him of a bag of cash that represented the night's proceeds of his business.Morales was found lying on Middle Street on April 11, 1998, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest left by a .45-caliber bullet. He had been left to die in front of his home. His death remained unsolved for more than a decade."
