Alleged gang member denied ordering Ashley Sparks' death - Salt Lake Tribune

08:26 |

Alleged gang member denied ordering Ashley Sparks' death - Salt Lake Tribune: "22-year-old Taylorsville man standing trial for ordering the slaying of Ashley Sparks at Jordanelle State Park repeatedly denied to investigators that he wanted the young woman killed.
Monday morning, jurors in the 4th District Court case watched two hours of videotaped interrogation showing detectives peppering Joshua Binkerd with questions on the 22-year-old American Fork woman's death.
'I didn't want it to turn out this way,' Binkerd said, sobbing at times.
In April 2009, Christopher Alvey pleaded guilty to shooting Sparks to death on Dec. 26, 2008. He is now serving a sentence of 20 years to life at Utah State Prison. As part of a plea bargain, he told authorities that he killed Sparks on Binkerd's order.
But during questioning on Dec. 28, 2008, Binkerd told Salt Lake City Police Detective Justin Hudson her death wasn't his fault. 'What I wanted and what I told [Alvey] was I wanted her away from me and I didn't want her to come back to me.'
The pair are reportedly members of a sub-unit of a gang called the West Side Crips"
