Ex-Mafia gangster sentenced - SalemNews.net | News, Sports, Jobs, Ohio, Community Information - The Salem News: "Joseph Garivay, the Mexican Mafia gangster convicted of murder in Los Angeles in April, was sentenced to 50 years-to-life for aggravated murder and 25 years for conspiracy to commit murder in Los Angeles superior Court on Tuesday.
Salem Police Det. Dave Talbert said he was advised by the L.A. County district attorney's office.
Talbert provided key testimony in Garivay's trial, a case with significance to Los Angeles prosecutors because it showed a link, for the first time, between the Mexican Mafia prison gang and street gangs.
Garivay, 42, also known as 'Capone,' will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole under California law, Talbert said."
