Police: Gang member sought 'street cred' in Yuba City killing | killing, member, police - Local News - Appeal-Democrat: "Yuba City gang member was upset when the fatal shooting he is charged with was reported in the local news section of the Appeal-Democrat, not on the front page, according to testimony Thursday in Sutter County Superior Court.
Michael Anthony Mosley, 24, who was held to answer on a murder charge after the preliminary hearing, wanted 'street cred' for the shooting, a police detective testified.
Judge Brian Aronson scheduled a Nov. 29 arraignment for Mosley, a member of the Norteños street gang.
Jose Eduardo Chavez, the victim in the April 4, 2004, shooting in the 500 block of Garden Highway, was one of several Sureños gang members who died in a series of driveby shootings.
Chavez was a passenger in a white van driven by Victor Lopez, who had been in two previous street confrontations that day with Norteños members. Lopez was driving south on Percy Avenue about 9:45 p.m. when a white sedan followed him around a corner onto Garden Highway."
