Customs officer charged over gangster corruption - News - Selkirk Weekend Advertiser: "customs informant handler has been accused of corruption over a case in which two Merseyside drug barons who pretended to turn supergrass were granted royal pardons.
Paul Cook, a former member of the National Investigation Service, will be prosecuted over allegations of misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the HM Customs and Excise officer has been summonsed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on January 11.
The move comes after solicitors reviewed his dealings with Merseyside gangland boss John Haase and his nephew Paul Bennett, who were convicted of perverting the course of justice in November 2008. Southwark Crown Court heard the pair tipped off police about an array of stashes of handguns, rifles, machine guns, grenades and drugs across Britain."
