Carl Williams' appeal withdrawn: "In just a few minutes, gangland killer Carl Williams' appeal against his 35-year jail term was put to rest - even though he'll never complete his sentence.

Williams was bashed to death inside Barwon Prison last year.

On Tuesday, Victoria's Court of Appeal formally struck out his appeal against his sentence for four murders.

Williams' former friend, Matthew Charles Johnson, is alleged to have hit him eight times with the stem of an exercise bike seat inside the prison on April 19 last year, inflicting fatal head injuries.

At the time, the two men were inmates in the jail's high security Acacia Unit."
