Pair charged in McDonalds drive-by gang shooting (6:30 p.m.) - Las Cruces Sun-News: "The investigation into what police say was a gang-motivated drive by shooting at an East Mesa McDonald's has resulted in two arrests.
Julian T. Melendres, 22, was charged Wednesday with shooting from a motor vehicle and Daniel Clemente Trujillo, also 22, was charged Thursday with battery on an officer, according to jail records. Trujillo, who just completed probation last April for a charge of resisting arrest had also been wanted on an arrest warrant for failing to appear on a charge of driving with a suspended license, according to court records.
Their apprehension was part of a joint operation by New Mexico State Police and the Las Cruces Police Department.
Officers responded to the McDonald's at 4810 Mesa Grande at 8 p.m. Jan. 13, where the reporting party - who identified himself as a gang member - said Trujillo, a rival gang member, had just tagged that gang 's name on the restaurant's property.
During the confrontation, Trujillo reportedly sprayed him with paint. Melendres then allegedly stepped out of a green pickup truck with a handgun, yelled his gang name and an obscenity, pointed the gun at the witness, then fired a shot into the ground."
