Prison visit ban slapped on gang bosses"Three senior members of the Rebel Motorcycle Club have been banned from visiting a Northland prison for attempting to recruit members.
The bans were put in place at the Northland Regional Corrections Facility near Kaikohe after prison staff monitored inmates' telephone calls.
The Rebels are Australia's largest outlaw motorbike gang and have been linked to methamphetamine distribution, extortion and serious violence.
Members were arrested across the North Island in a major organised crime bust earlier this month.
Prison manager Chris Lightbown said the calls revealed the senior gang members were planning to recruit new members"
