Police are investigating whether the critical shooting of two teens on a west Salt Lake City street was gang related. Police Lt. Brian Purvis says a man in a silver, four-door Volkswagen Jetta pulled along side the 17- and 18-year-old boys on the sidewalk and started arguing about 10:45 p.m. Friday. He told the Deseret News multiple gunshots ensued, hitting the teens in the back and legs. They were taken to a local hospital and reported in critical condition. Purvis doesn't don't know if they too were armed. He says the suspect ran back to his car and drove away. Lt. J.R. Nelson told the Salt Lake Tribune the gang unit is handling the investigation. But Purvis says they don't have a motive and aren't sure if gangs were involved.
