In an indictment handed down Wednesday and unsealed Friday, 25-year-old Perry Cousins was charged with murder in aid of racketeering activity, as well as several other gang-related charges. He was one of six Newport News residents named in the indictment involving the gang that federal prosecutors say operated in the Ridley Circle, Harbor Homes and Dickerson Court areas of Newport News.
Cousins was the only suspect charged with murder. The other five face multiple gang-related charges involving drugs, robbery, assault and racketeering. They are Darryl Vaughn, 22; Kevin Vaughn, 23; Jayson Bryan, 20; Monquay Williams, 20; and Haywood Lockhart, 22. Lockhart's charges are drug-related. The other five face racketeering conspiracy charges."
