Brother of slain teen sentenced on drug charges: "Kevin 'Gusto' Coleman, 25, was arrested twice inside of a month during the summer of 2009 while dealing crack cocaine on Seattle's East Union Street corridor. Coleman was identified by police as a member of the East Union Street Hustlers, a Central District street gang whose members have been implicated in slayings and violent incidents.
Following his arrest, law enforcement agents found a bulletproof vest and ammunition magazines for an AK-47-style assault rifle at Coleman's home.
Coleman was among a group of dealers Seattle police and federal authorities targeted in the Seattle Drug Market Initiative, a law enforcement push aimed at street drug sales.
Following an investigation, a number of suspects were invited to a meeting with police, shown the evidence against them and told to knock off the illegal activity, Assistant U.S. Attorney Vince Lombardi told the court Friday. Because of a history of gun crimes, Coleman was among those that didn't get that chance and was charged by prosecutors.
Coleman's 15-year-old brother, Quincy 'Q' Coleman, was one of five teens shot to death on Seattle streets in 2008 during a wave of slayings that prompted action by the city and contributed to the decision to launch the Drug Market Initiative there. Quincy Coleman was hot to death outside the Garfield Community Center. His killer has not been caught.
Having previously pleaded guilty to drug possession charges, Coleman apologized for his actions before being sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo Martinez.
'I really am sorry for what I've done and I want to apologize to my family,' Coleman said as his mother, fiance and other family members looked on.
Coleman remains at the SeaTac Federal Detention Center pending his transfer to Bureau of Prisons custody."
