Man gets 10 years for role in Tacoma Crips gang melee | Crime News - The News Tribune: "Larry Brown, 32, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary and riot in connection with a melee and shooting at a Tacoma Denny’s restaurant in December 2008.
Brown, who previously served time for robbery and manslaughter, avoided a possible third strike that could have sent him to prison for life by entering into the plea agreement.
Brown’s attorney, Paula Olson, told Superior Court Judge Thomas Felnagle that her client had made strides to straighten out his life before his latest arrest. He was enrolled in school, had entered a long-term relationship and was talking to kids about the evils of crime, Olson said.
“He did everything in his power to separate himself from his former gang life,” she said.
Prosecutors said he slipped up the night of Dec. 6, 2008. That’s when several Crips started a fracas at the Denny’s restaurant on South Hosmer Street that ended with a security guard beaten and shots being fired in the parking lot."
