'Dump Squad' street gang member sentenced for conspiracy

Gang member sentenced for conspiracy | WAVY.com | Newport News, Va.: "Newport News gang member was sentenced to 25 years in prison for participating in a racketeering conspiracy and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

Darryl Vaughn, 23, was a member of the 'Dump Squad' street gang from 2001 through 2009, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

The Dump Squad is a criminal organization operated primarily in the Ridley Circle, Harbor Homes, and Dickerson Court areas of Newport News.

Members of the gang engaged in drug distribution, violence including murder, and attempted murder and robbery. They often carried guns to intimidate others and protect themselves from rival gangs."
