"Philistin Paul, 32, alleged to be a street gang member associated with the Bloods, faces charges, including attempted murder, related to a shooting in Montreal North on June 4.
Beauvoir Jean, 46, a former street gang leader who now works to counsel youth against joining gangs, initially told police that while trying to intervene in an argument outside a strip mall on Pascal St., Paul began to argue with him. He said he and Paul, who goes by the nickname Crazy, exchanged blows and that Paul then pulled out a firearm and fired in his direction. It is believed that Paul then tried to hide the firearm in his pants and that it went off a second time, injuring his thigh.
Jean wasn’t injured, but called 911 and told the person who handled the call that Paul tried to shoot him.
Jean gave a videotaped statement to the police to that effect shortly after the shooting. But when called to testify in September, during Paul’s trial, Jean refused to testify. He told Braun in September that his work involved getting kids off the street and not putting people in jail."
