Santa Ana Officer Involved Shooting: Police Shoot and Kill Knife-Wielding Gang Member and His Dog - "alleged gang member and his dog were shot and killed Sunday in a violent confrontation with police officers in Santa Ana.

Santa Ana police say officers with a gang unit spotted a gang member who had violated his parole.

They chased the 18-year-old man to his home where he ran inside. Officers were immediately attack by a pit bull type dog in the yard.

The officers say they were forced to shoot and kill the dog. As officers tried to arrest the suspect, he allegedly threatened them with a large knife.

Officers say they were forced to open fire with their service weapons. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified by family members as Martin Ruiz."
