Mr Ayik had been the subject of a NSW Police and Interpol arrest warrant and was believed to be living on money he had stashed in foreign bank accounts. He narrowly avoided capture at the Greek-Turkish border two months ago, possibly after bribing officials.

Quebec street gang leader Ducarme Joseph has received an early and rather unusual Christmas present - a $283,743 tax bill from Revenue Quebec,

Posted On 19:29 0 comments

"Notorious Quebec street gang leader Ducarme Joseph has received an early and rather unusual Christmas present - a $283,743 tax bill from Revenue Quebec, QMI Agency has learned.

Street-smart Quebec tax officials unwrapped the gift for Joseph on Tuesday, slapping a tax lien on the gangster’s luxury Montreal-area mansion in a tony district of Dollard-des-Ormeaux. It is currently for sale for $1.6 million.

Joseph owes the province unpaid income taxes for 1994, 1995 and 2010, Revenue Quebec tax lawyer Sophie Allaire says in the lien filed in Quebec’s province-wide property records database.

Revenue Quebec’s move comes just months after a QMI Agency investigation revealed that Joseph owned the luxury home and was trying to unload it, even as he sat in jail after surviving an assassination attempt.

The tax lien forces lawyers and notaries involved in any eventual sale of Joseph’s mansion at 64 Rue Radisson to withhold $283,743 from the sale and remit the money to Revenue Quebec.

There was no immediate explanation of how Joseph – who was until earlier this year a regular in many of Montreal’s hippest downtown bars and restaurants - managed to avoid paying at least some taxes for 16 years."

Passenger in Salinas shootout will not face charges - MontereyHerald.com :: "No charges will be filed against a man who was a passenger when a shootout broke out with county Gang Task Force officers in Salinas on Dec. 11, the Monterey County District Attorney's Office said Monday.
Juan Anthony Ortiz, 37, was released from Monterey County Jail on Monday afternoon, according to jail records.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Terry Spitz said the jail had been notified by 'the end of the lunch hour' Monday that his office would not file charges against Ortiz, a decision likely to disappoint some local officers who believed he might be charged as an accomplice.

Both Ortiz and the man suspected of opening fire on the officers — Nicholas 'Nick' Martinez — are documented SureƱo gang members, according to court records. But for prosecutors, the proof of Ortiz's involvement in a crime was apparently not there.

'A person may not be charged with a crime merely because he is present at the scene of a crime,' Spitz said. 'It would not be at all surprising that one gang member was encouraging the other, but we have to have proof about what was said, or definite actions.'"

But the father of Omar Ahmed is furious at the treatment of his son.
(Photo : Abdi Farah, the father of the deported man .)
Abdi Farah told the Ottawa Citizen that his son was dropped last week in the lawless Somali capital of Mogadishu despite assurances he says he was given from Canadian officials that he would be flown to Bosaso, a city in the more stable state of Puntland.
A spokesman for the Canada Border Services Agency would neither confirm nor deny the story Tuesday.
'I am unable to confirm specifically where he was returned to,' said Chris Kealey, citing privacy concerns.
Ahmed had been held by federal immigration officials as a danger to Canadians since April 1. He agreed to be deported in order to end his indefinite detention.
According to his father, Ahmed waived his legal appeals based on the government's assurance he would be returned to Bosaso.
Ahmed has admitted to being a member of a notorious Ottawa street gang, the Ledbury Banff Crips. He was known on the street as 'Ghost.'"

Street gang boss pleads guilty to drug charges: "It took less than four months for Emmanuel Zephir to find himself at the centre of a major drug trafficking ring after serving a five-year prison term for killing a man.
Details of Zephir's quick ascent from leaving a federal penitentiary in January 2006 to running a drug ring that sold 250 grams of cocaine a week were made public at the Montreal courthouse yesterday as Zephyr, leader of the Syndicate street gang, pleaded guilty to seven charges filed in Project Axe, the Montreal police investigation that led to the arrests of 55 people early in 2009.
Zephyr, 38, had served the prison term for killing a rival gang member in June 1999 during a party at a reception hall in St. Leonard.

Bangin9 alleged Sur 13 gang members agree to plead guilty; 4 others will go to trial: "Nine alleged local members of the Latino street gang Sur 13 have now agreed to plead guilty to racketeering charges brought against them by the state Attorney General's office, while four others have decided to go to trial.
Roberto Trejo, 21, today became the fourth to reject the state's plea offer, deciding to face trial rather than agree to a 15-year prison sentence.
'He wants to exercise his right to go to trial,' said his attorney, Kristi Hanrahan.
All the accused are facing charges under Florida's racketeering statute, originally created to investigate mobsters but has increasingly used against street gangs.
The accused members were reportedly operating in the Westgate neighborhood west of West Palm Beach. Most were arrested in December 2007, the first targets of a statewide grand jury against gangs.
Those facing trial include: Trejo, Isais Jacobo, Victor Castillo and Jose Sanchez."

Mersey drug gangs: how Liverpool's influence spreads across UK and beyond - Liverpool Local News - News - Liverpool Echo

The Gangs of Liverpool: From The Cornermen to the High Rip - The Mobs that Terrorised A CityMersey drug gangs: how Liverpool's influence spreads across UK and beyond - Liverpool Local News - News - Liverpool Echo: "SINCE the late 1970s and early 1980s, Liverpool crime gangs have been a dominant force on the UK drug scene. The reach of the families and gangs who control the lucrative trade stretches far beyond the city boundaries.
City crime syndicates are known to have a major say in the sale of drugs as far north as Inverness and as far south as Cornwall, with Hull to the east and North Wales to the west.
Many of the places now seen as Liverpool strongholds have good transport links for moving drugs about, are hit by deprivation or have a mass market.
Places like Blackpool and Devon were firm family holiday favourites in the 1960s and 1970s before they became favoured spots to make ill-gotten gains – police in Torquay in the 1980s even had a team nicknamed “the Scouse Squad” to deal solely with the influx of Mersey crooks.
The travelling band of football fans from the city who toured the country following the successful Liverpool and Everton sides of the early 1980s also brought new opportunities.
Supporters who made a weekend out of games in other towns and cities soon spotted possible new ventures and hook-ups with local criminals.
Now, with high-speed rail links, motorways dissecting the country and cheap domestic flights, drug barons and their couriers can be anywhere and back within a day.
One underworld source said: “Hull is a bit of a stronghold now. There is the ferry service to the Hook of Holland, which is a long-standing route used by Scousers and their contacts and Hull is also a quite deprived area with a long history of drug problems."

The most serious charge carried a maximum 30-year term.
No one was injured in the March 20 shooting in the 700 block of Southwind Drive, but Judge Allen Anderson said the long sentence was needed to show such violence will not be tolerated.
Cantu was the front seat passenger in an SUV traveling in the 700 block of Southwind when gang signs were flashed with rival gang members in the front yard of a home.
Cantu and two other men drove by again, flashed more signs and Julio Chavez, 22, who was in the back seat, showed his handgun."

Mexico, Aztecs, Aztecas: Gang leader blamed in Ciudad Juarez violence arrested - latimes.com

Mexico, Aztecs, Aztecas: Gang leader blamed in Ciudad Juarez violence arrested - latimes.com: "Mexican authorities said Sunday that they had arrested the main leader of the Aztecas, a Ciudad Juarez street gang blamed for much of the violence in the troubled border city.

Federal police officials in Mexico City said Arturo Gallegos Castrellon, 32, was arrested in Juarez on Saturday. They said he confessed to taking part in several high-profile slayings, including the fatal shootings of a U.S. consular staffer and two other people in March and the ambush of a teen party in January that killed 15 people.

Authorities said Gallegos told them he was responsible for 80% of the killings in the border city since August 2009. Since early 2008, more than 6,500 people have died in drug-related violence there, according to unofficial tallies.

Among Gallegos' suspected victims were five Mexican federal police officers, the public safety secretariat said in a statement.

It was impossible to verify the suspect's alleged confessions. It is not uncommon for Mexican police to report that arrestees have admitted to numerous crimes.

The Aztecas, who are allied with the Juarez drug-trafficking cartel and claim members on both sides of the U.S.- Mexico border, are believed responsible for much of the violence that has turned Ciudad Juarez into Mexico's deadliest city."

Police struggle to keep bikies out of Kings Cross

Posted On 19:39 0 comments

Police struggle to keep bikies out of Kings Cross: "POLICE are trying to lock bikie gangs out of Kings Cross amid fears of an intensified turf war between gangs and a danger that innocent partygoers could be hurt in the crossfire.
NSW police are using the threat of breaches of the clubs' lucrative liquor licences to force them to refuse entry to gang members in club jackets, other clothing and distinctive gang tattoos.
The Sun-Herald has learnt 29 clubs in the Kings Cross strip, also known as the Golden Mile, have received letters saying police have applied to forcibly ''impose'' conditions on their liquor licences, a move that can be done without the licensees' consent.
Advertisement: Story continues below The new conditions would mean licensees allowing in gang members could be slapped with an $11,000 fine and a one-year prison term - measures some clubs say are too tough. The Sun-Herald learnt of the plan when police intelligence documents supporting the plan to bar bikies from Kings Cross clubs were mailed to the wrong address.
The documents were part of a hefty submission by the Kings Cross police local area command crime intelligence unit, prepared for the state government department overseeing liquor licensing.
The dossier includes details of ongoing violent disputes between members of at least six bikie gangs dating back to 2006, as well as two CDs containing police intelligence on the gangs and their hangouts."

Bikers Of America, Know Your Rights!: Virginia - ALEXANDRIA, Va. Beach motorcycle gang member sent to prison for gun sale..: "former Navy SEAL and onetime president of the Mongols motorcycle gang’s Virginia Beach chapter was sentenced Friday to 18 months in prison for selling a machine gun he brought back from Iraq.
Justin “Itchy” Wilson, 30, also will serve three years of probation. He pleaded guilty in Alexandria federal court to illegally possessing and transferring a machine gun.
The government, according to court papers, sought a 2½-year sentence citing evidence of a plot to commit insurance fraud as well as Wilson’s affiliation with “a dangerous gang.” The government also alleged that Wilson obtained the weapon from an Iraqi insurgent he had shot dead. Wilson denied that.
“A lengthy period of incarceration will also send an important message that individuals who seek to sell war trophy weapons in the United States will be punished,” a federal prosecutor wrote to the judge.
Wilson’s attorney submitted more than 70 pages of Navy commendations and letters as well as a three-page letter from Wilson seeking leniency.
U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema agreed, sentencing Wilson to six months less than the minimum recommended under federal sentencing guidelines.
Wilson admitted he sold a fully automatic, AK-style machine gun to an undercover agent in Fairfax County in 2008."

Alleged gang chief's rules to live by

Posted On 21:33 0 comments

Alleged gang chief's rules to live by: "Chenier (Big) Dupuy drew up a set of rules to live by after he finished a six-month prison sentence in 2008.
But there was one key rule he forgot to follow.
Rule No. 11 on the reputed street gang leader's list -titled Ten Rules to Follow -was one that read 'No jail. Fini.'
Unfortunately for him the list was seized on Oct. 22, 2008, when Dupuy, alleged to be the head of the BoGars street gang, was arrested for drug trafficking.
He has been behind bars since then and yesterday prosecutor David Simon told Quebec Court Judge Jean-Pierre Boyer that the Crown would like to see Dupuy serve the equivalent of an eight-year prison term, less the time he has already served.
In April, Dupuy was convicted on four counts of trafficking in crack, cocaine, marijuana and hashish. The charges resulted from a Montreal police investigation that started only days after Dupuy was released after the six-month sentence he served on a conviction for assault and possession of a firearm.
Weeks after being placed under police surveillance following his release in September 2008, Dupuy was arrested while driving a Lexus that belonged to his girlfriend, Stephanie Castrilli, 23. Inside the trunk police found 2.27 kilograms of marijuana. Later that day, police searched an apartment on Jubinville St. in Laval and found two kilograms of marijuana, 300 grams of cocaine and 90 grams of crack inside a backpack."
