Prosecutor: Asian Boyz gang leader had role in eight 1990s killings

Asian Boyz ClubProsecutor: Asian Boyz gang leader had role in eight 1990s killings - SGVTribune.com: "former leader of a gang known as the Asian Boyz, who fled to the Philippines for 10 years after playing a part in the deaths of eight people in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, should be convicted of murder and other felonies, a prosecutor told a jury today.
'I told you I would try to show you a man who would try to erase who he is,' Deputy District Attorney Hoon Chun said of 37-year-old Marvin 'Shy Boy' Mercado. 'But don't let him fool you. It may be justice delayed, but it's still justice.'

Chun made his remarks during closing arguments in the Los Angeles Superior Court trial of Mercado, who was a fugitive when seven one-time cohorts of the gang's Van Nuys clique were tried, convicted and sentenced to no-parole life prison terms in June 1999.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Mercado."

The Van Nuys boys are referred to in the area as V-Boys and are different than "the V" (a separate gang).

The Asian Boyz or AB (numbers 1-2 on tats) accepted a variety of people into the gang and were not limited to Asian membership.

The same was true of the Viets For Life (VFL) who accepted white gang members into their numbers.
