Officer April Harding says two gang enforcement officers tried to stop a man shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday near MacArthur Park but he ran away.
The man pointed a gun at officers, prompting them to open fire, Lt. Don Brady said.
The suspect, a known gang member and parolee, died at the scene, police said.
Investigators say a gun was found next to the man’s body.
His identity was not immediately released."
