Street gangs cited in latest Winnipeg shooting

22:03 |

Winnipeg police are investigating yet another shooting and now say the recent spate of violence in the city could be due to street gang retaliation. As a result, there will be an increased presence of officers in the West End and North End. The latest shooting happened just before 6 a.m. Thursday in the lane between the 500-block of Simcoe Street and Home Street in the West End — not far from where shots were fired and a firebomb tossed at a house on Victor Street the day before. No injuries have been reported at this time in either incident, police said. The lane between Simcoe and Home is taped off and littered with yellow police tags marking evidence. No further information has been made available by police.
