Gunz-Up member sentenced to 40 years to life for attempted murder

Emery Allen, a member of the Gunz-Up gang, has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison in connection to a shootout with a rival gang in 2009, district attorney Jan Scully announced today. A jury convicted Allen in April of the attempted murder of Junius Winters, a member of the rival gang, G-Mobb/Guttah Boyz. Allen instigated a gunfight between Gunz-Up and G-Mobb/Guttah Boyz in September 2009 involving as many as 13 people, according to a press release from the district attorney's office. The shootout was part of a spate of violence between the two gangs, as well as the Oak Park / 4th Ave Bloods, that included 26 shootings between 2008 and 2010, according to the press release.
