With a warrant out on him for running away from a group home, Siackasorn stood outside a house that served as a Tiny Rascals Gangsters hangout at 37th Street and 42nd Avenue, waiting to buy $5 worth of marijuana. Around 2 p.m., Nguyen and his partner, Detective Ed Yee, swooped down on Siackasorn in an unmarked car from the sheriff's gang task force.
The defendant took off in a sprint. Nguyen jumped out of the car and gave chase. The two hopped backyard fences and landed atop a chicken coop, where Siackasorn turned and shot the deputy three times with a .22-caliber revolver he was holding for a fellow gang member.
It took the 10-man, two-woman Sacramento Superior Court jury about 3 1/2 days of deliberations to find Siackasorn guilty of the first-degree murder. The panel also affirmed a special-circumstance allegation that Siackasorn killed Nguyen in the line of duty. Siackasorn is expected to be sentenced to life in prison with no parole when he faces Judge Cheryl Chun Meegan on May 26."

lawyer for gangland killer Carl Williams says major police investigations are in jeopardy after his client was bashed to death in Barwon Prison.
Williams, the Melbourne underworld figure who was serving 35 years in jail for four murders, was bashed to death with part of an exercise bike inside a maximum security unit yesterday.Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Simon Overland has confirmed that a man will be charged over Williams' death later today. This morning Williams' lawyer Rob Stary told ABC News Breakfast that his client had been a "useful tool to the state", but stopped short of confirming that Williams had turned police informer.
"His untimely demise will put many investigations in jeopardy," he said.
"There are other matters that are very sensitive to the state. And his untimely demise really, will put many of those investigations into jeopardy."
Mr Stary says the two prisoners suspected of being involved in Williams' murder are notorious criminals."One can take a simple view and say this was just a random attack on Mr Williams, or there might be a more sinister motive behind the killing," he said.
"One has to look at who would profit from the murder."
Mr Stary says the investigation into Williams' death needs to be independent from Victorian Police.

B.C. gangster turns 'rat' in search for redemption: "Surrey Six killings saw four known drug dealers and two bystanders shot to death in a highrise building in suburban Vancouver on Oct. 19, 2007.
The latest indictment in the prosecution names Hooites-Meursing as a conspirator in the murder of one of the six victims, along with alleged co-conspirators Dennis Karbovanec, Jamie Bacon, Cody Haevischer, Matt Johnson and Mike Le.
Can a man who admits a role in killing five and terrorizing scores more people in 20 years as a hardcore gangster truly show remorse? Can he find redemption?
Anton sent dozens of e-mails over the past 10 months to this reporter, offering glimpses into his dangerous world and the motivations behind his decision to turn on his crime family.
These messages, which he agreed could be published, trace his story from a troubled childhood, to L.A. gang-life and finally to drug trafficking, torture and murder. Then to the life-changing walk on a Brazilian beach that led to a guilty plea for two counts of first-degree murder earlier this month in a high-security B.C. courtroom. He will be in prison at least until 2035, when he is 64 years old.
Anton Brad Kornelius Hooites-Meursing was born in March 29, 1971, in Calgary, the second of three sons. His parents moved the kids around a lot — first to Australia, where his mother was from, and later to L.A., where his dad had a successful construction businesses."

Gangster connected to killing of Burnaby man: "California police investigators are saying Hooites-Meursing was an associate of Burnaby native Joe Bralic, who was found shot to death in a Fullerton, California parking lot on July 5, 2001.is a person of interest but he is not a suspect in the actual murder as far as being primarily involved with doing it,' Fullerton police homicide Sgt. Mike Chlebowski told The Province Thursday. 'He is a person of interest in the case in his relationship to Bralic and his contacts down here.'
Chlebowski said the Bralic death is an 'active case, and we do have some active leads that we are following up on right now.'
Police believe the popular bodybuilder was killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the Discount Tire store parking lot in broad daylight after a marijuana-for-cocaine deal with American or Mexican drug dealers went awry.
Chlebowski believes Hooites-Meursing, who was born in Canada but grew up in Long Beach, California before being deported back to B.C. in 1994, provided Bralic with his ill-fated 'contacts and connections' in Southern California.
Hooites-Meursing has also revealed that he will testify against four suspects in the upcoming Surrey Six murder trial."

At one point, one man was trying to get back into one of the cars. He wasn't allowed to and a ranger searched the vehicle, where he found the loaded gun, Tallman said.
Three of the four men were arrested at gunpoint."

No suspects named as number of victims of Canal St. shooting jumps to 8 | New Orleans News, Local News, Breaking News, Weather | wwltv.com | Crime News: "New Orleans Police now say eight people were shot on Canal Street on Saturday night when someone opened fire to settle a score.
A 17-year-old who was shot in the torso was the man police said the shooter intended to hit, but seven bystanders got in the way.
It's an example of brazen violence that seems to be consuming the city's streets.
“I saw a shadow of a man with a gun, and he's like 'pow, pow', just walking and just shooting,” said Anel Vasquez, who was working at a nearby store when shots rang out Saturday night.
According to police, one man handed a gun to another and he opened fire at the intersection of Canal and Royal streets, just as French Quarter Festival was wrapping up nearby.
'We've had approximately 50 police officers just on the Canal Street area for traffic control and for visibility, and for something like this to happen, regardless of the number of police officers, it's a challenging situation for law enforcement,' said Deputy NOPD Superintendent Marlon Defillo on Saturday night."

Drug-fueled triangle of death engulfs Rio Grande region | Houston & Texas News | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle: "killers came for police chief Oliver Garcia as he was readying for bed in this quiet village an hour's drive from the south Texas border, dragging him into the night in his red boxer shorts.
His assassins had already snatched two of Garcia's officers; they drove the three 10 miles away to a dirt road near a natural gas well and shot them down.
“He was never involved in things, so we never thought this could happen,” Alberto Lopez, the mayor of this village of just 2,500, said of the 62-year-old Garcia's killing last week. “We don't have gangsters in these towns, we don't have people involved in drugs. So people are very afraid.”
After four years of relative calm, Mexico's gangland battles have exploded anew in the industrial cities and ranch lands along the lower Rio Grande. Dozens have been killed in the past seven weeks throughout the triangle defined by the river's mouth, the cities of Laredo and metropolitan Monterrey. The skirmishes here reflect a bitter and presumably lasting split between the so-called Gulf Cartel drug smuggling organization and its vicious former enforcers, known as the Zetas."

college face book: Why has Britain become a battle ground for foreign gangs?: "500 suspected Jamaican criminals operating in Britain, running a drug trade that brings about 200 pounds of cocaine from Jamaica into Britain each week with a street value of more than £4.5m.The flow has accelerated sharply in the past 18 months, largely as a result of tougher immigration controls by the United States. Yardie gangsters find it not only easier to enter Britain but can also make bigger profits than in the US, where the street price of cocaine has slumped.'More and more of the criminals of the Jamaican gangs are going to the UK,' said Tony Hewitt, a senior superintendent with Jamaica's Special Branch. 'It seems that every time you search for a man, you hear that he is in England.'"

Masked men with automatic weapons opened fire in the street in a poor area of the Honduran capital on Saturday night and then burst into two houses, killing seven men and two women, police said. Several bodies lay in the street, oozing blood, police said.
'These deaths were provoked by territorial disputes between drug traffickers,' Tegucigalpa's police chief Mario Chamorro told reporters.

Circuit Judge Karen Miller said Thursday he took issue with the wording of the agreement in which 29-year-old Futo Charles refused to acknowledge Top 6 was a gang and denied being a member of the organization.
The plea deal had Charles serving 15 years in prison and required him to testify in trials against other alleged gang members.
Members of Top 6 say the organization is a music group. Authorities contend that Top 6 has about 350 members who control at least 10 predominantly Haitian or Haitian-American neighborhood-based gangs throughout Florida.

Four men jailed in 'Old West' shootout

Four men jailed in 'Old West' shootout: "Shaun Roberts, 26, and Daniel Landry, 24, each got six years; Chantha Kim, 32, was handed a five-year sentence and Marcel Landry, 27, received 41/2 years -- less credit for time already spent behind bars.
'The significant penitentiary time reflects what can colloquially be called a shootout on the streets of Calgary, reminiscent of the Old West,' Crown prosecutor Shane Parker told a judge in presenting a joint-sentencing submission worked out with lawyers for all accused.
A teen, who was also in the car, previously pleaded guilty in youth court and was sentenced to a young offenders facility.
Kim was behind the wheel of an Acura while rival gangster Matthew Chubak was driving an Infiniti at 1:25 a.m. on Nov. 16, 2008, in Chinatown.
Gunfire rang out when the two vehicles pulled up next to each other at Centre Street S. and 2nd Avenue, court was told.
Hans Eastgaard, whom police believe to be a member of the FOB gang, Chubak, Nathan Zuccherato and Timothy Chan -- all occupants of the Infiniti -- were struck by several bullets.
Roberts, who was in the Acura, was also struck by a bullet, suffering a wound to the cheek.
No one was fatally wounded in the gunfight, though a series of deadly attacks followed in the subsequent weeks and months."

A quarrel broke out and Galstyan began shooting, they said.Hayt Yegnanyan, 25; Sarkis Karadjian, 26; Harut Baburyan, 28; and Vardan Tofalyan, 31, were killed, and two other men were wounded. Trial begins for man suspected of ordering Rosemead murder from prison - Whittier Daily News: "murder trial of a reputed Mexican Mafia 'shot caller' accused of ordering the slaying of a Rosemead man in 1998.
Eulalio 'Lalo' Martinez, 48, is suspected of ordering the slaying of Donald 'Pato' Schubert from his prison cell at Pelican Bay, where Martinez has been locked up for more than 15 years.
Testimony in the case may show a link between the Mexican Mafia prison gang and street gangs, something Deputy District Attorney Martin Bean said has been difficult to prove in the past.
'It's not common that we are able to prove the connection between a street gang and any prison-type gang,' he said.
Investigators have accused Martinez of controlling the Lomas Rosemead street gang from behind bars.

Keenan "Buddy" Wideman, 17, a member of the Bloods street gang, appeared Wednesday in juvenile court in Camden

Posted On 10:48 0 comments

Keenan "Buddy" Wideman, 17, a member of the Bloods street gang, appeared Wednesday in juvenile court in Camden, where a judge ruled he would be tried as an adult for his alleged part in the February slayings of Michael "Doc Money" Hawkins, 23, and his girlfriend, Muriah Ashley Huff, 18.Wideman could face life in prison as an adult, rather than 20 years as a juvenile. He is among 10 people, including three other juveniles, charged with murder after a violent frenzy spanning several hours in Camden when Hawkins was bound, gagged, repeatedly beaten, stabbed and shot, and his girlfriend beaten and choked.Prosecutors are seeking to try all the juveniles as adults, including the youngest, a 14-year-old Camden girl, scheduled to appear in court Thursday.Cherry Hill defense attorney Michael W. Kahn said Wideman told authorities that he had punched and kicked Hawkins, suspected of being a Crips member, but never stabbed or shot him. Wideman also is charged in the death of Huff, a cosmetology student at Burlington County Institute of Technology."It's clear the gun and the knife were not in his (Wideman's) hand," Kahn said in an interview after the hearing, adding later that Wideman is "remorseful. He is a child; he is scared."
During Wednesday's hearing, Wideman told Judge Angelo DiCamillo that he agreed with his defense attorney that it was not in his best interest to fight the move to adult court based on "overwhelming" evidence linking him to the crime.During hours of videotaped interviews, about 20 people - most of whom were in the Berkley Street apartment at some point during the slayings or cleanup - have stitched a story together for prosecutors, Kahn said. The gang's leader, identified as Kuasheim "Presto" Powell, 24, had been concerned about other gang members when he arrived at the apartment with several others, including Wideman, as his muscle, Kahn said.Hawkins, already badly beaten, was in a closet, accused of denying his association with the Crips after he started associating with the Bloods, sources said. Powell, authorities said, allegedly shot Hawkins several times in the head and choked Huff.Although as many as 19 people were in the house, not all participated in the slayings, Kahn said. Some, however, lifted blood-soaked carpet, scrubbed the walls, and dug the grave in the snow-covered ground behind the rowhouse. Police were tipped off Feb. 25 about the corpses, eventually leading to the 10 arrests.Powell was the last person captured last month after he fled to California. Authorities are having him brought back to Camden.During the attack, Huff was taken to another room, where she was beaten by several people, authorities said. The 14-year-old girl, who dated one of the other juveniles charged, was among those who repeatedly beat Huff, they said. She is scheduled to appear in juvenile court Thursday morning.
Wideman's hearing Wednesday was the second court hearing in which authorities linked the deaths to the Bloods. Assistant Camden County Prosecutor Tim Chatten requested that Wideman receive protective custody in the Camden County Jail, including segregation from other Bloods gang members. The teen said little during the hearing, in which his mother wept as she learned her son would not remain in a juvenile facility."I just don't understand why he can't stay where he's at. Why can't he stay at the youth detention center?" Sharondah Duckett asked the judge, insisting her son has never been in trouble before.DiCamillo assured Duckett her son would be required to attend classes as he did in the juvenile facility and noted the teen will turn 18 in September.Duckett sat with two relatives at the hearing, including the boy's uncle, Teril Duckett, who said Wideman aspired to attend college on a sports scholarship or join the military. He played basketball and ran track at Pennsauken High School, the uncle said.Kahn said he hoped Wideman would be given the opportunity to plead to a lesser charge, potentially shaving time off a prison sentence, because he did not resist the move to adult court, and his participation in the crime was minimal.
Before sheriff's deputies returned the shackled Wideman to a holding cell, Judge DiCamillo said, "Keenan, I wish you the best of luck."

Nine Trey Hillside Beehive set of the Bloods street gang, including its two top leaders indicted

Posted On 20:18 0 comments

Twenty-two alleged members and associates of the violent Nine Trey Hillside Beehive set of the Bloods street gang, including its two top leaders, have been indicted on charges that include first-degree gang criminality as a result of a joint investigation targeting the Paterson-based set, state Attorney General Paula T. Dow announced Wednesday."This is the first time that the Attorney General's Office has obtained an indictment under New Jersey's new anti-gang laws," Dow said. "The charges of gang criminality and promoting organized street crime are specifically geared to prosecuting the criminal activities of gangs and their leaders, and each charge carries a sentence of 15 to 30 years in state prison. We have taken down the leadership of this violent set of the Bloods street gang, and our aim in prosecuting the defendants is to see that the punishment fits their crimes."

The gang activities of this Bloods set extended through Passaic, Essex, Monmouth and Cumberland counties, but its primary area of operations was Paterson, Dow said.

Dow said that in addition to alleged murder conspiracies and distribution of heroin, cocaine and marijuana, the investigation uncovered smuggling of drugs and cell phones into the state prisons. The accused include Brian Teel, a former corrections officer in New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, who is charged with taking $500 in payment to smuggle a cell phone into prison for Scott. The 36-count indictment stems from Operation Swarm, an investigation by the State Police, Division of Criminal Justice, Department of Corrections' Special Investigations Division, the Paterson police, and the Passaic County prosecutor and sheriff's offices. The set's founder and leader, or "Godfather," Clarence Scott, 35, allegedly ran the gang from New Jersey State Prison where he is serving a life sentence, 35 years without possibility of parole, on a 2002 conviction for murder.Scott allegedly made Asmar Bease, 29, of Paterson, "Godfather" for the street, second in rank only to Scott. As Scott's top man outside the prison system, Bease allegedly utilized violence and intimidation to control the gang's drug-dealing turf on 17th Avenue between East 27th and East 29th streets in Paterson.Another defendant, Aimee Harker, 34, of Vineland, allegedly served as the primary conduit to facilitate three-way calls between Scott and other gang members, both inside and outside of prison.Scott, Bease and all 20 other people named in the indictment are charged under the state's new criminal code provisions with first-degree gang criminality.Scott, Bease and three others are charged with the new first-degree offense of promoting organized street crime for allegedly organizing, supervising or financing the gang's criminal activities. The others charged with that offense are Bease's alleged second in command on the street, Corey Cauthen, 29, of Paterson; Lewis Alford, 33, of Keansburg, who allegedly oversaw gang operations in Monmouth and Ocean counties; and Isaac Porter, 38, of Paterson."New Jersey's anti-gang laws provide police and prosecutors with new weapons in their fight against criminal street gangs," state Criminal Justice Director Stephen J. Taylor said. "We will use every weapon in our arsenal to combat the violent gangs that have been terrorizing our residents and degrading the quality of life in our neighborhoods."Several defendants are charged with murder or conspiracy to commit murder. Cauthen is charged with murder in the death of Daniel Ragonese. Ragonese was shot in his car on East 28th Street in Paterson on Jan. 12, 2008 and drove a short distance before crashing into a tree.
In addition, Scott and Bease are charged with conspiracy to commit murder for allegedly plotting to kill another defendant, Oshun Black, 34, of Paterson. The alleged plot was thwarted as a result of the investigation. And four other defendants, Bryan Thomas, 21, Lamont Williams, 21, Keith Brinkley, 19, and Kosmick Leary, 20, all of Paterson, are charged with conspiracy to commit murder for another alleged murder plot thwarted by investigators in January 2009.Isaac Porter, who was an inmate at Northern State Prison in Newark, is charged with using female associates outside the prison to procure drugs and cell phones and smuggle them into the prisons during contact visits. His former cell mate, David Clay, 35, who is now in Bayside State Prison, is also charged in that scheme. The prison smuggling allegedly was carried out under the supervision of Scott and Bease.
Three women, Tyla Chance, 38, of Paterson, Kisha Ruff, 40, of Newark, and Natasha Peyton, 31, of Paterson, are charged with arranging three-way calls for Porter with gang members and obtaining drugs to be smuggled into prison by themselves or others. A girlfriend of Clay, Cynthia Gainey, 38, of Paterson, is charged with attempting to smuggle marijuana to him.Porter is charged with leading a narcotics trafficking network, a first-degree offense. Bease and Cauthen are also charged with that crime, which carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.Terry Young, a girlfriend of Scott's, is charged with purchasing a cell phone to be smuggled to him in prison, and shipping the phone to Teel along with a $500 U.S. Postal Service money order as a bribe for smuggling it.As a result of arrests made during the investigation and a search warrant executed at 227 17th Avenue in Paterson on Aug. 13, 2008 detectives seized 6,850 decks of heroin worth approximately $48,000, 50 ten-dollar bags of crack cocaine, and six small bags of marijuana. The first-floor apartment was used by the gang as a headquarters and a base for distributing narcotics. The apartment tenant, Roshiema James, 37, and most of the other defendants are charged with narcotics offenses. Some defendants are charged with weapons offenses. Several, including Bease and Cauthen, are charged with tampering with evidence or witnesses or hindering apprehension or prosecution in connection with the murder of Ragonese.
Also charged in the case are Kelvin Wells, 21, of Paterson; Kahseem Allah-Shabazz, 32, of Paterson, and Qhasheema Frye, 20, of Paterson. The indictment was handed up to state Superior Court Judge Linda R. Feinberg in Trenton. After the indictment was returned, warrants were issued for three defendants, Porter, Alford and Wells, who were arrested Tuesday night. Porter and Wells were arrested in Paterson, and Alford was arrested in Long Branch. The investigation was led by State Police Det. Mark Finnegan; Deputy Attorney General Christopher Romanyshyn; Raphael Dolce and Principal Investigator Vincent Wojciechowicz of the Department of Corrections Special Investigations Division, and Paterson Det. Sgt. Dalton Price. Romanyshyn presented the case to the grand jury.
